Beloved bounty hunter Boba Fett is dead - but who killed him?

The pick this week sees a Star Wars fan-favorite killed on the first page - Dark Horse Comics’ “Star Wars Blood Ties: Boba Fett is Dead #1".
The rest of the book answers the question “Who would want to kill Boba Fett?” Pretty much everyone, it turns out. As the preeminent bounty hunter of the Star Wars universe, Fett's list of enemies is about as long as a Hoth winter. But there’s another mystery at the core of the book: Who would want to kill the men who killed Boba Fett?
Boba Fett first showed up as an animated short in the notorious “Star Wars Holiday Special” and quickly became a beloved character. He’s the enigmatic bounty hunter shrewd enough to outfox Han Solo in “The Empire Strikes Back,” then responsible for transporting Solo after he was frozen in carbonite.
Friend of Geek Out and all-around comic guy Daniel Dean from Titan Games and Comics in Smyrna, Georgia, put it best when he said his favorite comics are the ones where a character who isn’t the focus of the story still drives the story.
“Sometimes the best place to begin is with an ending,” Dean said. “Boba Fett's dead; now what?”

Don't be afraid of 'Ghostbusters' No. 8

There is no doubt who you’re gonna call for this week’s pick, IDW's new "Ghostbusters" comic!
I am a huge fan of the movie and the first couple seasons of the cartoon, "The Real Ghostbusters.” Until now, I never read the comics for fear of ruining my memories of the franchise.
Our brilliant Geek Out friend Daniel Dean from Titan Games and Comics in Smyrna, Georgia, was of the same mindset when we saw the preview for this series.
“I was super stoked when this new series was announced because I've been following penciler Dan Schoening for years online,” he said.
“Ghostbusters" No. 8, out today, is a standalone issue, or one-shot as they call it in the comic book industry. The next issue will kick off a new four-issue story arc, so this is a perfect jumping-on point for new readers.
'Courtney Crumrin' puts adolescent spin on supernatural genre

Fans of “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” who wanted a deeper, more mature story, your cries to the comic goddess have been answered. Today sees the release of Oni Press’ “Courtney Crumrin" No. 1, the start of a monthly series. This issue is a wonderful introduction to the character and her family.
For folks who are new to the Courtney Crumrin world, there are two trade paperbacks out.

Really big superhero fight, Marvel-style

When people look back at 2012, what will they think of? The Year of the Dragon? Election Year?
Not comic book fans.
They will remember this as the year Marvel pits the Avengers against the X-Men - "A vs X." It kicks off with this week’s pick, Marvel Comics “Avengers VS. X-Men #1.”
Recent events in both books are converging, and grievances between the two teams going back decades are about to be aired in the form of a rumble that will put the Mike Tyson vs. Buster Douglas fight to shame.
Marvel's premier franchises are going toe-to-toe in the name of an ultimate prize: the galaxy not exploding and the rebirth of an entire race.

'Atomic Robo' for the win

A butt-kicking robot ventures all over the world, fighting evil scientists, dinosaurs and other robots in this week’s pick, Red 5 Comics' “Atomic Robo Presents Real Science Adventures #1.”
This new anthology presents several smaller self-contained stories and strips about the mechanical hero Atomic Robo. It's written by Brian Clevinger and featuring art from John Broglia, Ryan Colby, Yuko Ota, Chris Houghton, Joshua Ross and Scott Wegener.
The last story in "Real Science Adventures #1" is actually part of a larger story that is also in "Atomic Robo Volume 1 #3" but has themes from most of the other Atomic Robos books, like "Atomic Robo and the Dogs of War," "Atomic Robo and the Shadow From Beyond Time," and "Atomic Robo and the Deadly Art of Science."
I first heard of the book when Evil Hat Produtions announced plans for a table top RPG based on the comic. As a fan of their Dresden Files RPG, I went looking for “Atomic Robo” comic books to see what it was all about. I fell in love!
Also a huge fan of the books, Daniel Dean from Titan Games and Comics in Smyrna, Georgia, said, “I am not the kind of comic fan who sits around hoping and waiting for some TV or film adaptation of their favorite books, but I would tune into an ‘Atomic Robo’ series tomorrow.”
If you’re late to the “Atomic Robo” party, you don't really have to steep yourself in that much background, which is a great aspect about the comic books and hopefully, by extension, the franchise's other platforms. FULL POST
