"The Hunger Games," due in theaters on March 23, 2012 (and trust me, the fans are counting the days), is one of the most highly anticipated films of the next year.
Based on the popular series of books, the movie has come under a great deal of scrutiny.
For those not quite in the know, Celebuzz.com's Amber James explains why it's such a big deal:
Forget "Harry Potter" and "Twilight." In a few months, "The Hunger Games" phenomenon will be taking over the pop culture world.
Although it will be feeding off the tween demographic, this franchise will chew up those other guys and spit them out.

Thanks for this, nice read. I found it interesting and up to date. Gracias.
This sounds like a total rip off of Battle Royale, which features a dystopian Japan utilizing a lottery system to select one class of high school students a year to fight to the death.
Not only did Japan do it first, America, they did it better:
40 students instead of 12,
Students are given weapons at random,
All students are forced to wear bomb collars, which will detonate if their "partner" of the opposite gender is killed.
They are not allied with one another, only linked together against their will.
The last two survivors must face off in the end, with collars disabled.
Oh, and did I mention all collars come with microphones, and the whole thing is televised nationally?
The Battle Royale series has dozens of books and at least 2 movies. Give credit where credit is due.
you are totally right.. this is a complete rip-off of Battle Royale... B U T ... i preffer this than an american remake of Battle Royale
